Nov 28 2008

The North Whidbey Aquatic Club Aquajets scored 323 points to place fourth at the 12-team Kamiak Age Group Invitational at Kamiak High School in Edmonds on Nov. 22 and 23.

The meet was won by the host team, West Coast Aquatics, with 702 points. Second place went to StingRay Swimming of Snohomish with 433 points. The Mighty Marlins of Marysville claimed third with 384 points.

Leading the Aquajets was Jacob Jepsen, who won the boys 13- and-14-year-old 200 butterfly in a time 0f 2:13.84, and 400 individual medley at 4:38.53. His time in the individual medley qualified him for the Age Group Sectional Championships in March.

John Hu added the only other NWAC victory, winning the boys 15-and-over 200 individual medley in a time of 1:57.64.

The relay team of Molly Vagt, Marissa Morris, Mara Powers and Laura Rodeheffer set the only NWAC team record of the meet, lowering the girls 10-and-under 200 freestyle standard to 2:16.02.

Four Aquajets finished the meet with 100 percent individual and relay best times. These competitors were Mollie Briddell, Michael McGinnis, Marissa Sligh and Lauren Vagt.

Seventeen Aquajets earned a total of 28 new Pacific Northwest Swimming Championships qualifying times.

This group was led by Michael McGinnis, who made new cuts in the boys 13- to-14-year-old 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, 500 freestyle and 400 individual medley.

Other new PNS qualifiers included Jarik Bainco, Irysh Concepcion, Karina Concepcion, Emily Huffer, Jacob Jepsen, Olivia Meyer, Lauryn Plush, Caley Powers, Tyler Schell, Marissa Sly, Kennedy Trisler, Lauren Vagt, Molly Vagt, Cole Weinstein, Rachel Weinstein and Price Hu.

In addition to Jacob Jepsen, three other NWAC athletes qualified for the Age Group Sectional Championships including Caley Powers in the 500 freestyle and 400 individual medley, Tyler Schell in the 500 freestyle and Kasha Trisler in the 200 backstroke.

NWAC next competes Dec. 6 at the Anacortes Grand Pentathlon at Fidalgo Pool, where it will field a team of 60 competitors.
