A 28-year-old Oak Harbor man is accused of forcing a woman to stay in her home and making her walk across cut glass, court documents show.

Prosecutors charged Jacob Anderson in Island County Superior Court Nov. 6, 2007, with unlawful imprisonment and assault in the fourth degree. Both are domestic violence charges.

On Nov. 5, a judge ordered a no-contact order barring Anderson from contact with the victim. The same day, Anderson was released from custody after making the $20,000 bail.

Anderson pleaded not guilty Nov. 19. On Dec. 10, he didn’t appear at a court hearing because he was being held in Whatcom County for violation of a protection order. The judge authorized a $20,000 bench warrant on him.

On April 25, Anderson’s attorney withdrew during the omnibus hearing.

According to court documents, a resident of Crosby Road reported that her boyfriend, Anderson, had assaulted her early in the morning of Nov. 3. She reported that she tried to get away from him, but he prevented her from leaving the house. At one point, she ran out of the residence yelling to get a neighbor’s attention and Anderson grabbed her, forcing her back inside, the report states.

The deputy wrote that Anderson pulled the woman’s hair and struck her on the head multiple times.

The report states that Anderson broke a glass on the ground and forced the woman to walk across it, deeply cutting her foot.

In addition, the deputy wrote that Anderson grabbed the phone from her and dragged her by her hair, hitting her head into things.

Medical units responded to the scene and found that the woman needed stitches on her foot and had to be checked for head trauma, court documents state.

If convicted of the charges, Anderson would face from four months to a year in jail under the standard sentencing range.
