Legislators report on saving economy

Local residents and small-business owners are invited to hear the three legislators from District 10 talk about what they’re doing to help Whidbey Island weather the economic downturn.
The meeting is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at the Coupeville Recreation Hall, 901 NW Alexander St., Coupeville.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by The Whidbey Examiner, the Central Whidbey Chamber of Commerce and the Island County Economic Development Council.
At the meeting, Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen, D-Camano Island, Rep. Barbara Bailey, R-Oak Harbor and Rep. Norma Smith, R-Clinton, will address such topics as ferry service, the state budget and legislation affecting farmers and small businesses, as well as their top priorities on jobs and the Whidbey Island economy during the upcoming 2010 legislative session.
