Langley revises land-use fees

An ordinance to change the way the city collects land-use fees was approved at Monday’s Langley City Council meeting.
The city had collected a base fee for all land-use actions, such as annexations or short plats, and then billed the applicants monthly for city staff time spent on each project.
In the new ordinance, the city has determined an average for each category, and will collect that amount up front.
In another housekeeping measure, the council approved an ordinance listing general penalties for failing to comply with city ordinances, and one revising the city’s bail schedule.
The first ordinance requires a fine of not more than $1,000 for city infractions not already assigned penalties, and not more than $1,000 for misdemeanor violations not already covered.
Clerk-Treasurer Debbie Mahler said the ordinances were to reinstate language in city regulations that had been omitted during a revision several years ago.
