South Whidbey crime spree targets politicos

Jul 17 2008 · UPDATED

Politician's signs along South Whidbey highways have become the target of vandals, Island County Sheriff Mark Brown said Thursday.

"We've had some complaints from candidates but I'd rather not say who," Brown said.

Candidates from all parties have seen their signs damaged. Brown warned that it is a misdemeanor to deface or remove political advertising — including yard signs and billboards — without permission.

"The right place to express an opinion is the ballot box," Brown added.

Ann McDonald, a candidate for the Position 2 seat in the 10th Legislative in the House of Representatives, said two of her signs near the Greenbank store were damaged sometime Wednesday night.

McDonald said she was accepting donations from people who would like to help her replaced the signs that were destroyed.
