Motorcycle club gives away wheels
Island Wings Goldwing Motorcycle Club has teamed up with the Forgotten Children’s Fund and the M-Bar-C Ranch to give away 30 new bikes to deserving kids on Whidbey Island.
Any child who doesn’t own a bike for financial or other reasons is eligible. If you know a child who could benefit from a new bike, send a letter to the club explaining why. The application should also include the child’s name, contact phone number and address. The child’s height and gender is also important so the club can find the perfect bike for the child.
All selections are final and those bikes not claimed will be awarded to the next eligible child.
Letters must be postmarked by July 19. Recipients will be notified by July 30.
The kids will get their bikes Aug. 10 at the M-Bar-C Ranch.

District hosts meeting on pool
The South Whidbey Parks & Recreation District and O.R.B. Architects will host another public meeting to discuss the feasibility of building an aquatics and recreation center on the South End.
The meeting is 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 17 at the United Methodist Church, Third Street and Anthes Avenue in Langley.
The meeting is a follow-up to the design charette held in June, and topics will include design concepts, construction costs, maintenance costs, programming revenue and timelines.
Meerkerk Medley looking for hosts
Organizers of the annual Meerkerk Medley, a fundraising evening for Meerkerk Rhododendron Gardens that features delicious dinners in private homes, are looking for people interested in either hosting a dinner or attending as a guest.
The event will be held Saturday, Aug. 2.

Holmes Harbor team to meet
The next meeting of the South Holmes Harbor Community Advisory Team will be held later than usual.
The team will meet from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 10 in Trinity Lutheran’s Grigware Hall.
Helpers needed to rebuild platform
Whidbey Watershed Stewards and the South Whidbey School District will replace the viewing platform at the Maxwelton Outdoor Classroom in Clinton and more volunteers are needed to help out.
The work starts July 14. Part of the deck over Maxwelton Creek will be removed and a new platform will be built away from the creek.
Old materials must be removed and new materials must be brought in by hand, wagon and wheelbarrow — so unskilled volunteers — as well as carpenters and handy people — are needed.
Organizers are seeking the assistance of Scout groups, service clubs, church youth groups and individuals.
The project is expected to be finished by Aug. 3.
For safety reasons, the trails will be closed to the public during this time.

Historical society hosts painting class
The Island County Historical Society will present “New Light on Old Buildings,” an outdoor painting class where participants will paint a lived-in old building during the morning and an old barn in the afternoon.
Finished paintings will be exhibited in August at the museum in Coupeville.
The class is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 19. The cost is $95 per person, box lunch included. Call 360-678-3310 for details and to register.
