Poetry and music celebrate season before the frost at Greenbank Farm

Trees store their true colors behind the green chlorophyll-soaked leaves of summer.

When autumn comes, the trees rest and the yellow and orange that reside naturally in the leaves reveal themselves in a blaze of glorious color before falling.

Before everyone falls to rest in their own hiberna for winter, four performers will show their own blaze of color during the Rob Schouten Gallery’s “Trans4mation, An Autumn Evening of Music, Poetry and Art.”

The free event happens at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Greenbank Farm gallery.

“Autumn is such a time of transformation in nature and for all of us as we slow down and adjust to the changing light and energy,” gallery manager Victory Schouten said.

“We wanted to acknowledge and celebrate the season with four of our favorite performers. I am ready to be surprised and delighted by them.”

The gallery is proud to present guitarist Quinn Fitzpatrick and poets Stephen Roxborough, David Ossman and Judith Walcutt.

Ossman is a poet, comedian, radio personality and an all-around wordsmith. His published work includes numerous books, broadsides and other hand-printed artworks from Turkey Press.

Ossman is well-known as one of four founding members of The Firesign Theatre, and recently released his latest book, “Dr. Firesign’s Follies, Radio, Comedy, Mystery, History,” published by BearManor Media.

Walcutt is a writer, performance poet and a producer of live events, plays and radio broadcasts.

Husband and wife Ossman and Walcutt have been collaborating in work and in life on Whidbey Island for more than 20 years.

Roxborough is a past board member for the Washington Poets Association, co-founder of Burning Word poetry festival and head poet at the Madrona Center on Guemes Island.

An internationally acclaimed, award-winning performance poet, “Rox” has been twice nominated for the Pushcart Prize, has appeared at the Skagit River Poetry Festival, and co-edited “radiant danse uv being,” a poetic portrait of Bill Bissett.

He is the author of “Making Love in the War Zone,” “So Far All the Very Long Important Subversive Mind-Expanding Long Ones” and “Impeach Yourself!” His spoken word CD, “Spiritual Demons,” is available at www.amazon.com and cdbaby.com. He currently studies North American culture in Anacortes.

Fitzpatrick is an eclectic guitarist who draws upon folk, country, rock, blues, funk and jazz. He recently relocated to Whidbey Island and is recording a CD to promote his solo instrumental guitar music. Fitzpatrick is currently a guitar instructor at Antioch University in Seattle.
