American Legion Post 141 brings Stars and Stripes to Bayview School in Langley

Nov 19 2008

A new Old Glory is flying over Bayview School.

The faded flag that had served the school for many years was retired in favor of a new one donated by American Legion Post 141. With teachers, students and military veterans helping out, new all-weather state and U.S. flags were posted on the school grounds at the start of the school day.

The Washington flag was a gift from Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen.

Bayview student body leader Trevor Hein raised the national insignia as Marine Corps veterans Don Carson and Ed Donery rendered salute and led the gathering in the Pledge of Allegiance. Fred McCarthy, superintendent of the South Whidbey School District, helped Bayview student Kelsey Matzen post the Washington flag on a separate staff.
