Vashon's Seals Swim Team learns water polo from a pro
Aug 20 2008
Vashon’s Seals Swim Team learned about water polo to cap off a tough but successful summer swim season that ended two weeks ago. The upper-level swimmers learned water polo from Jennie Darling, a former member of the nationally ranked San Jose State University water polo team. After college, Darling founded her own youth water polo team before moving to Vashon. The Seals will begin practice for the fall swim season Sept. 15. Tryouts will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. this Saturday, Aug. 23, at the King County Pool. At the placement tryouts, coaches will assess a swimmer’s basic skills and place him or her in the appropriate level. Swimmers should arrive at the pool prepared to swim with a swim cap, good-fitting goggles, swimsuit and towel. All swimmers who wish to be assessed need to be there at 10:30 a.m. for a mini orientation from the coach. New swimmers and those who have missed a session must try out before registering with the Vashon Park District. For more details, visit the club Web site at www.vashonaquaticclub.org.
