Vashon loses Nisqually crown to Cascade Christian, has play-in game on Saturday

The Vashon Pirate football team fell to Cascade Christian Wednesday night, 38-28. The Pirates trailed throughout the game, but showed a tremendous amount of character and grit. They never gave up and the 10-point margin indicated the strongest Nisqually League competition Cascade came up against as the Cougars averaged a 30-point margin of victory before going against the Pirates.
The victory gives Cascade the league championship and automatically advances them to the state playoffs.
Vashon finds itself tied with Orting and Port Townsend. An earlier coin toss benefited the Pirates by advancing them to the play-in round of the state tournament.
At 7 p.m. Saturday at Franklin Pierce High School, Orting will play Port Townsend in a 24-minute game. The winner will clinch a postseason berth and the right to face Vashon later that night in a seeding game.
If Vashon wins the seeding game on Saturday, it will host the number-three team from the Northwest District; if the Pirates lose, they will travel to the number-two team from the Northwest District. Both of these games are scheduled for Tuesday, November 10.
