Scholarship fund supports our seniors
May 07, 2008The Vashon Community Scholarship Foundation (VCSF), a community-wide effort to provide Vashon High School seniors with scholarships, is considered one of the most successful in the region. Of the 152 chapters of the so-called “Dollars for Scholars,” VCFS ranks fourth in the number of scholarships awarded to seniors and fifth in the amount of money distributed each year.
Any senior who successfully completes a notebook — which includes a personal essay, recommendations and a collage of photos — receives a scholarship. Last year, VCSF raised $134,000 and awarded scholarships to 103 students out of a class of 129.
Sources for scholarship funds include businesses, nonprofit groups, family memorials and personal donations.
Those interested in contributing to the scholarship fund should contact Pam Held at 463-3337. Donations are accepted through May.
Awards night is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, in the high school gymnasium.
