An author and artists talk about money
Nov 03 2009
In a move designed to boost Vashon’s sustainability, several local performers are banding together with economist and author Thomas Greco Jr. to present a free evening of dialogue and entertainment at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10.
The event will take place at the Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi.
Greco, the author of “The End of Money and the Future of Civilization,” will be on hand to sign books and discuss how small, isoloated communities can create the perfect platform for alternative currencies, where the money stays where it can do the most good — in support of local businesses.
Greco will be joined by Elizabeth Net, Steffon Moody, John Browne and others who will take the stage with performances based around the topic of money and sustainability.
Kyle Cruver, who is helping to organize the event, explained the impetus behind the evening.
“In hard economic times, it’s sometimes tempting for folks to buy ‘on-the-cheap’ off-Island, thereby whisking away any potential benefit to local families, developed business synergies or shared experiences within our community,” Cruver said.
“Fortunately, there’s an effort afoot to turn this trend around, in an Island-friendly and innovative way.”
