Jan 06 2009
Red Bicycle Bistro and Sushi will offer a full plate of music this weekend with two free concerts.
The Hobson/Person Trio will lead off with a show at 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9. Jim Hobson and Richard Person, both Islanders, have performed jazz together for decades. They will be joined by singer Lauri Hennessey.
The band Kore Ionz will bring roots, reggae and rock music to the Bike’s stage at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10.
The band has shared the stage with Bob Marley’s Original Wailers, Eek A Mouse, Clinton Fearon and John Brown’s Body. The group is known for high-energy grooves as well as a commitment to social justice.
This year, the band donated 50 percent of the proceeds from sales of of its first CD to The Service Board, a Seattle youth empowerment organization. The members also traveled to King County’s Juvenile Detention Center in November to play for the youth detainees.
Marian Liu wrote in The Seattle Times, “Kore Ionz has a higher calling that involves changing lives.” For more information, visit www. koreionz.com.
Both shows are for ages 21 and older.
