Bike brings back a lively band

Publish the Quest, a band known for its danceable sound, will hold a party for the release of its first CD, “The Threads,” at Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi at 10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22.

The show has an $8 cover charge and is for ages 21 and older only.

Publish the Quest is a combination of several members of well-established, popular bands in the Seattle area including Clinton Fearon’s Boogie Brown Band, Picoso, Reptet, Trolls Cottage and The Panda Conspiracy. The band is fronted by Jacob Bain, who grew up on Vashon Island.

Bain draws from a variety of musical influences, including a recent trip he made to Cuba.

Other band members include Earl Clay, drummer for Trolls Cottage and a good friend of Bain’s for the many years they spent together growing up on Vashon.

On bass guitar is Jeff Demelle. Izaak Mills plays saxophone and flute, and Samatha Boshnack brings trumpet and flugelhorn to the mix.

Chris Poage, of The Panda Conspiracy, plays keyboards and helps add to the lyrics.

The latest addition to the family is Mark Oi, who plays electric guitar.

The band describes their music as a “combination of blues, rock, ska, world pop of some kind and something else mixed and then decolonized.”

One song included on the Myspace page, “Home,” is a tribute to life on Vashon Island.

Concert organizer Pete Welch said, “The sound is so different and original, it’s something you need to experience live to appreciate it the most. This will most definitely be the type of show that fills the dance floor with bodies. They will have plenty of copies of their debut CD available for sale at the show to take home with you in case you feel like dancing at home, too.”

Publish the Quest will share the bill with Bob Scott n’ The Pockets, a group that has emerged on the Island music scene over the last year.

This will be the band’s debut performance at The Bike.

Welch said he expected the show to be packed, and recommended buying advance tickets or coming early to the show.

The Bike is home to a lively music scene, with Welch booking both local and national acts year-round.
