CLASSES

Aug 27 2008

Eat for health

The class “Eating for Health and Weight Loss” will offer three new sessions, and each will run for five weeks. They start at 7 p.m. on the following dates: Wednesday, Aug. 27 (for men only), Monday, Sept. 1 and Thursday, Sept. 18.

Inflammation can be a big factor in most chronic conditions, including hypertension, arthritis and diabetes. Diet can effectively reduce inflammation and the problems it causes. In this class participants will learn why some foods quiet inflammation while others increase it. Eating to quiet inflammation provides significant benefits that include a relatively effortless weight loss (if needed), improved sleep and reduced aches and pains.

Advance registration at the Vashon Island Coffee Roasterie is required; the cost is $75. Contact Kathy Abascal at anemopsis@yahoo.com for more information.

Learn to breathe

A Transformational Breath Workshop will meet from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 3, 10, 17 and 24, at the Hanna Barn, 7712 Pt. Robinson Rd.

In this workshop, participants will learn a breathing technique for increasing their energy level while decreasing their stress level and how to correct restrictive breathing patterns.

Transformational Breath can be used to quiet the mind and liberate oneself from unpleasant emotional states.

The cost is $35 per session or $125 for all four. Each session builds from the one before and deepens understanding of the value and benefits.

Jim Bacon will be presenting. To register contact Susan Cassaro at 406-8442 or Diane Newby at 463-9659.

English classes

The Vashon Library will offer an English language learners class from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 11, 18 and 25.

Celina Yarkin will teach the free weekly lessons with practice activities. Weekly attendance is important. Contact Yarkin with questions at 463-2007.
