Bulldogs beat Indians in district first round, play Sequim on Wednesday
After losing three games in the boys sub-district basketball tournament, the Foster Bulldogs on Monday night beat Renton High for the third time this season, keeping their drive to state alive.
The Bulldogs trounced the Renton Indians 63-38 in the first round of District 3 2A Boys Basketball Tournament in Tacoma, knocking Renton from the postseason.
The Bulldogs entered district play seeded 12th and the Indians were seeded fifth. The first round pits low seeds against high seeds.
After Friday night's 57-42 loss against Steilacoom High School at Foster, the Bulldogs told Coach Isaac Tucker they wanted to practice on Saturday.
Monday night, the Bulldogs were ready to play. They beat the Indians by the largest margin yet this season.
Next up, the Bulldogs play fourth-seed Sequim at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at Curtis High School in Tacoma.
If the Bulldogs win Wednesday, they'll play in the district semifinals on Friday, Feb. 21, at 7:45 p.m. at Foss High School. If the Bulldogs lose, they'll play in at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at Bellarmine Prep in a loser-out game.
The district championship game is at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma.
Foster and Sumner are the only two remaining Seamount League boys teams at the district tournament. Besides Renton, Lindbergh High has been eliminated, losing to Sumner 72-50 Monday.
The top five finishers in the district tournament will play in the regional tournament Feb. 18 and March 1.
The state 2A tournament is March 6-8 in Yakima.
