Seahawks: Mora, Goodell, Leiweke and others will attempt to summit Mount Rainier

Before climbing the mountain of his first NFL season as the Seahawks' head coach, Jim Mora will attempt to summit another (much taller) peak: Mount Rainier.
Mora, along with Seahawks CEO Todd Leiweke and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will make the climb to benefit United Way's Response for Basic Needs. The goal of the climb is to collect $500,000.
The complete climbing party includes: Mora, Goodell, Leiweke, Jon Fine United Way of King County President/CEO, Molly Nordstrom United Way of King County Board Chair, John Thelan Costco Senior Vice President, Fred Kiga Boeing Vice President and Greg Bronstein Wells Fargo Regional Managing Director.
The party will have two world-class guides for the climb in Ed Viesturs and Peter Whittaker. Viesturs is the only American to summit all 14 8,000-meter peaks without supplemental oxygen. Whittaker is a co-owner of the largest guide service in America, Rainier Mountainerring, Inc.

The trek begins July 5 with pre-trip orientation. The climbers will meet at the Rainier Base Camp for training, gear checks, introduction to safety practices and introduction to environmental considerations.
The party will spend July 6 at mountaineering day school just above Paradise between 6,000 and 6,600 feet. Then on July 7 the group will make its way to Camp Muir. The hike from Paradise to Camp Muir is nearly 4.5 miles and gains almost 5,000 feet in elevation.
Weather permitting, July 8 will be summit day for the team. The summit stands at 14,410, the highest point in Washington.
