Renton Reporter Police Blotter: Gasoline stolen from rental vehicles

Nov 18 2008

The manager of the U-Haul on Rainier Avenue North is reporting continuing problems of gas thefts from vehicles parked there, including the recent theft of about 100 gallons of gas, according to Renton Police.

The recent incident occurred between 7 p.m. Nov. 12 and 6 a.m. Nov. 13. Approximately 100 gallons of unleaded gas – valued at $2.29 a gallon – from U-Haul vehicle gas tanks, a loss of $229.

The thief is now resecuring the gas cap, as opposed to leaving the cap unscrewed, which makes it harder to determine which vehicles have been hit, according to police.

The offense is considered first-degree theft.

An officer started pacing the vehicle at 75 mph in a 35 mph zone on South Puget Drive.
