Hargrove says voters are speaking against Simpson
Aug 27 2008
A challenger is declaring a mandate from voters in his race for the Legislature after last week’s primary election.
Mark Hargrove, a Republican, said his 5 percent lead over 47th District state Rep. Geoff Simpson indicates voters are “tired of being supposedly represented by a person who clearly doesn’t care about their needs and priorities.”
Throughout the campaign, Hargrove has said Simpson, a Democrat, isn’t in touch with constituents’ interests.
Simpson, a legislator since 2000, has defended his record in transportation, education and other issues.
The incumbent and Hargrove will meet in the general election in November.
Meanwhile, the levy for Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety was still headed for defeat in counting of votes from the primary last Tuesday. Fifty-two percent of the votes went against the measure, which called for continuing a property tax that funds basic operating expenses for the fire district.
