Northwest Warriors win regionals, qualify for the CABA World Series

The Northwest Warriors, a Kent-based team that draws players from Kent, Auburn and Enumclaw, has earned a trip to the Continental Amateur Baseball Association World Series.

The Warriors secured their tickets to Georgia last weekend with an 8-7 victory against O’Brien Autogroup of Bellevue in the 16-and-under CABA regionals in Redmond.

Brandon Johnson, who was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, hit two home runs in the title game, and had four RBIs.

Johnson was among six Warriors who were named to the all-tournament team. Joining him on that squad were Clayton Brown, Ben Cox, Joe Piercey, Craig Rainey and Trevor Swain.

In five games at the 12-team regionals, the Warriors, coached by Scott Richards and managed by Masami Hasegawa, outscored their opponents, 43-20.

The CABA World Series will take place July 27-Aug. 3 in Marietta, Ga.
