Bandits baseball

Federal Way Bandits 12-U Baseball will be holding tryouts for the 2010 season 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 22-23 at Brooklake Christian School Field, 629 S. 356th St., Federal Way. E-mail coach Patrick: pompier1203@yahoo.com.

Buzz baseball

SBA Buzz Baseball is holding tryouts Aug. 9 at Todd Beamer High School, 35999 16th Ave. S., Federal Way. 14-U and 15-U player tryouts are at 11 a.m. 17-U and 18-U tryouts are at 1:30 p.m. 13-U tryouts are at 4 p.m. To learn more or pre-register, visit www.buzzbaseball.net, e-mail nadeauinc@comcast.net or call (253) 927-4460. Fastpitch softball

The Federal Way SLAM! fastpitch softball team will be holding tryouts on Aug. 8 for the 2010 14-and-under team. The SLAM! is a year-round select softball team that finished third in the USSSA state championships this year. Overall, the team produced a 48-14-1 record, won five tournaments and never finished worse than fourth in a tournament in 2009. The team will play a few fall tournaments and then practice indoors in Federal Way until the sun comes back out in March/April 2010. The team has a great core group of girls returning and a positive coaching philosophy that is unmatched in fastpitch softball.

Soccer: Jasmine Sharpe

The Academy of Art University’s Head Women’s Soccer Coach Aileen Nasypany has announced the signing of Jasmine Sharpe to the 2009 roster. Jasmine, originally from Federal Way, has decided to join the Urban Knights for the 2009-2010 academic year, following an impressive high school and club team career. Sharpe, a defender and midfielder, won a South Puget Sound League-North Honorable mention as a defender at Thomas Jefferson High in 2008. She also helped lead her high school team to win district in two consecutive years. Sharpe was also a member of the Premiere soccer league where she played a total of seven years before deciding to join the Urban Knights. With Premiere Soccer, Jasmine’s team finished first in Division P2. She plans to major in graphic design at the Academy of Art University.

Recently accepted into the NCAA, this will be the second year for 13 of the 14 sports at the Academy of Art University, including Women’s soccer. This will however be the first year for the team under the direction of new head coach Aileen Nasypany. The Urban Knights have a full 21 game season scheduled for 2009, and will be competing in the Pacific West (Division II) conference.

Soccer camps

The Decatur High School girls soccer team is conducting two camps for boys and girls from 5 to 13 years old. The camps will run from Aug. 10 to 14 at the Decatur High School soccer field.

The Gator Soccer Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is for boys and girls from 7 to 13. The camp is $100 per player. Each camper will also receive a soccer ball and camp T-shirt.

The camp will include teaching of skills like dribbling, passing, shooting, heading and tackling and will also include organized games, skill competitions, scrimmages, sessions on nutrition and fitness, video clips and more.

The Little Gators camp for boys and girls 5 to 8 years old will run from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 10-14 at Decatur. The camp will focus on fun and fundamentals and campers will receive a soccer ball and T-shirt. The cost is $85.
