Elected mayor proposal will appear on November ballot

Aug 07 2009

The Federal Way City Council held an eight-minute special meeting at 5 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 8) to approve a resolution for the November ballot that could change Federal Way's form of government.

The council approved 5-0 to include a citizen-led initiative on the Nov. 3 general election ballot. If passed by voters, the initiative would change Federal Way's city manager/city council form of government to an elected mayor/city council governance. Council members Dini Duclos and Eric Faison were not present at Saturday's meeting.

Pro and con committees were appointed to write the ballot language for the voters pamphlet. Roy Parke, Clara McArthur and Diana Howell were appointed to the "pro committee," while Jerry Vaughn, Mary Ehlis and Bob Kellogg were appointed to the "con committee."

On July 30, the city received a petition asking to change Federal Way's form of government. Click here to read more about the initiative.
