Giving Gobbler

Sacajawea’s Honor Society has gotten its 16th annual “Giving Gobbler” food drive under way.

Donations are being accepted in classrooms and in the main office until Nov. 21. Donations will be given to the Federal Way Food Bank at the Multi-Service Center. Call Gene Victor at (253) 945-4954.

Mentors at Mega School

Mark Twain Elementary school has received the distinction of mega school by the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound for its mentoring program. The school currently has mentors for about 20 students but hopes to reach 50 this year.

Mentors must be a high school sophomore or older and can commit to one hour a week for one academic year. Call (206) 763-9060 or (253) 396-9630.

Decatur students make the

AP grade

At Decatur High School, 26 students have earned the AP Scholar Award for their performance on AP exams.

Six students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

Six students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. Fourteen students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams with grades of 3 or higher.

Pow wow at Federal Way

Federal Way Public Schools Native Education Program is sponsoring the “Honoring the Gift of Tradition.” The pow wow event will take place at 1 p.m. Nov. 22 at Federal Way High School, 30611 16th Ave. S. The event will feature native dancers from around the region including Elders, Tiny Tots and Hand Drum dances.
