Enumclaw rider receives award

Lauren Phillips and her Thoroughbred Stormy Maccool were very cool at the Western Washington Fair in Puyallup in September. The pair earned the 2009 4-H State Reserve Grand Champion for hunt seat title.
Phillips, an Enumclaw High School senior and member of the Happy Hayburners 4-H group out of Enumclaw-Black Diamond area, qualified for the King County Fair in Enumclaw, where she was named Reserve Grand Champion for hunt seat and was one of nine picked for the King County team to compete at the state fair in Puyalup.
At the state fair, the 17-year-old made it into the hunt seat finals and was named Reserve Grand Champion.
Last year, Phillips earned Grand Champion in hunt seat for western Washington counties at the Puyallup fair.
This year, she is also competing with the Enumclaw High School equestrian team, which won the Washington Association of High School Equestrian Teams state championship for medium-sized schools in the spring.
