EHS GIRLS SOCCER: Hornets strike soccer’s No. 2 seed

Boasting an impressive second-place finish in the South Puget Sound League 3A soccer standings, the Enumclaw High Hornets now turn their attention to postseason play.

Enumclaw opens against the Lindbergh Eagles, the No. 2 club out of the Seamount League. The two will square off at 5:30 tonight, Wednesday, at Sunset Chev Stadium at Sumner High School.

Win or lose, EHS will play again Saturday. If the Hornets are victorious tonight, they will play at 3 p.m. at Sunset Chev Stadium against the No. 3 team from the Southwest District; if the Hornets fall tonight, they will play at 1 p.m. at Highline Stadium in Burien against the No. 3 entry from the combined Olympic League/Western Cascade Conference.

The Hornets opened the SPSL 3A season with a loss to eventual champion Bonney Lake, then rattled off seven league victories in a row. Enumclaw capped the season Thursday with a 4-1 victory at White River and had opened the final week of the league season Oct. 27 with a 2-1, home field victory over Peninsula High.

A White River, Erin McCrillis put Enumclaw on the board with an early goal, but the game was knotted when White River’s Cassidy France scored later in the half.

The second half proved to be all Enumclaw’s. Claire Meeks scored a pair of goals to give her Hornets a comfortable 3-1 margin and Alicia Tomaso capped the day’s scoring with a goal in the 66th minute.

Enumclaw’s victory over Peninsula came on the strength of a goal by Kaycie Morrison and a penalty kick by Dani Streuli.
