Buckley residents can now purchase city flag

Due to the apparent popularity of Buckley’s municipal flag, which features the community’s heritage logo emblazoned on a background of hunter green, the City Council passed an ordinance which makes the flag accessible to all, to be flown outside homes or places of business.

Because the flag contains the copyrighted logo, the city has formally applied certain conditions: for example, it can only be used on approved materials and must not be used in conjunction with any merchandising or fundraising activity. The elements of the design and text are seen as integral components of the logo and must not be deleted or modified.

“We don’t have much actual authority to enforce these common sense rules, but we are hoping folks will have the same respect for our city flag as they would any flag,” City Administrator David Schmidt said.

The ordinance also put a display policy in place which notes that the city flag should be treated in a fashion similar to all flags and should be placed in an inferior priority position to the American and other national and state flags.

The flags can be ordered only through Buckley City Hall. The cost, which includes a 20 percent administrative fee, is approximately $127 for the flag measuring 3 feet by 5 feet and $187 for the larger 4-by-6 version.
