Buckley sets workshop

The city of Buckley and University of Washington graduate students have scheduled their second community visioning workshop.

The workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to noon May 1 at the Buckley Multi-Purpose Center, 811 Main Street.

The UW graduate students, who are assisting the city in preparing its revised comprehensive plan, are facilitating this meeting to share what they heard at the first vision meeting, Feb. 21.

The 38 community members who attended the first meeting discussed what makes a community healthy, what makes Buckley a special place and how the city should manage future growth.

They answered questions such as:

€ What are the things you like most about Buckley? What makes it special?

€ What are important cultural or community characteristics you would like to preserve?

€ If you could change or improve one thing about Buckley, what would it be?

€ What kind of growth do you want? How do you want to grow?

€ What kind of commercial growth is right for Buckley? Local stores or chains?

€ Would you like to invest public money in Buckley's natural open spaces to develop trails and parks?

Buckley citizens are invited to give feedback on the comprehensive plan's draft goals, which were formulated based on the community input from the first meeting.

All the work will then be compiled and written into a draft comprehensive plan for the city, which will be presented to Buckley's planning commission.
