Salon and spa lets staff and clients shine

There’s a glow radiating from the corner of Railroad Street and Myrtle Avenue, it’s Shine Salon and Spa.

Tim Munnell, who owns the business with his wife Kristin, knows what it takes to run a successful spa and salon and they named their business with the ideal that it’s up to them to make those who come in for facials, hair styling, pedicures and other services shine.

From its sunny yellow interior to its staff’s cheerful welcome, Shine is about service and atmosphere.

After 13 years in the business, as owner of a massage practice, manager of the spas at Montana’s Big Sky Resort and most recently as manager of InSpa’s Factoria facility, Munnell says it’s the people that make the spa and he’s put together a top-notch team to meet the needs of the area’s clientele.

“We want to establish ourselves as a business people can depend on because of the quality of service we provide,” Munnell said. “We believe the staff is the best in town at what they do. They’re good with people.”

People like Brenda Borkowski, Shine’s nail technician who came with Munnell from InSpa, estheticians Sarah Brock and Tanna Bunker, hair stylist Susan Milbauer and licensed massage practitioner Chelsea Barclay and Munnell himself.

The Munnells had been thinking about opening their own salon and spa when the stars aligned.

Abba Salon and Day Spa closed its doors and through a series of events building owner Mike Reynolds and the Munnells connected. It didn’t take long and the 1710 Railroad St. cottage with its relaxing terrace fountain and waterfall, hardwood and tile floors, manicured garden and state-of-the-art pedicure chairs opened its doors again. The grand opening was June 19.

It’s a completely different business, but Munnell is offering 20 percent off Shine services to Abba gift certificate holders.

Shine offers its own gift certificates, as well as a complete line of services like facials, waxing, hair styling and color, massage and manicure and pedicures.

The spa also carries the B.Kamins skin care line and OPI nail care. Stylists, Munnell said, will carry their own lines.

Shine Salon and Spa is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays, and does take walk-ins. It currently will be closed on Sundays. To make an appointment or for more information, call 360-825-5755. A Web site is on its way.
