The Kentlake and Kentwood girls soccer teams opened the postseason in fine fashion on Wednesday night.

Kentlake, which is making its first playoff appearance since 2003, knocked off Decatur 1-0 in a South Puget Sound League seeding game at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup. Callen Shelton scored the lone goal of the game and Savannah Wood picked up the shutout in goal.

With the win, Kentlake (9-5-3) moves on to the district tournament and will play Tahoma (13-1-2) for a state berth at 2 p.m. on Nov. 7 at Federal Way Memorial Stadium. Kentlake hasn’t qualified for state since 2003.

While the Falcons were busy taking care of Decatur, Kentwood (12-0-4) clamped down on Beamer, 3-1.

Kiana Kraft, Courtney Roller and Alex White all tallied goals for the Conquerors.

The win helped Kentwood grab the SPSL’s No. 3 seed to the district tournament. The Conquerors will play Gig Harbor at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Art Crate Stadium at Bethel High for a state berth. Kentwood has qualified for state in each of the last four years.
