King Co. civil rights panel has opening in Covington area

The King County Civil Rights Commission is accepting applications for five of its positions, one of which represents the Covington, Maple Valley and Black Diamond areas.

Appointments to the commission, which require County Council approval, are for three-year terms.

The commission advises the county executive and the County Council on civil rights-related programs and issues. That includes affirmative action, enforcement of non-discrimination laws, and minority/women business programs.

Commission members serve without pay, are bound by the county’s ethics code and must complete a financial disclosure statement. They’re asked to commit about 10 hours per month to meetings and projects.

The commission vacancies are in council districts 1, 3, 6, 7 and 9. District 9 includes Maple Valley and Covington. District 7 includes Black Diamond.
