Vote no on I-985
Sep 17 2008
In a previous issue of the Reporter, Tim Eyman once again is trying to get involved where he doesn’t belong.
Case in point, he is sponsoring I-985 to take funds from the traffic cameras in Auburn and all other cities and put it in a fund that probably will never help our fair city.
What difference does it make on whether there are assets coming from these red light cameras? If people didn’t think they were above the law and could run those red lights, there wouldn’t be any need for the cameras.
I, for one, and others I know are real nervous about entering an intersection with the green light, only to find one of these “above the law” people running the red light. Many an accident has happened because someone felt they were more important than the safety of others.
Even though numerous intersections have the cameras now and signs are posted showing there is a camera, we still have people thinking safety doesn’t matter.
Keep the cameras and put more up and let these out-of-towners – who are coming through our town speeding and running red lights – help us fund our pedestrian safety programs and traffic calming tools.
Vote no on 985 and keep the money here at home to do the most good.
