Kiwanis’ Brink honored

Valley Kiwanis Club’s Ruth Brink recently was honored for her support of the Kiwanis Children’s Fund during the 2007-08 administrative year.

The Kiwanis Children’s Fund is the primary source of unrestricted support for the programs of the Kiwanis International Foundation. The mission of the Kiwanis Children’s Fund mirrors that of the foundation: to assist Kiwanis International in serving the children of the world.

Members who support the Children’s Fund by making annual gifts are recognized through the sustaining donor program.

Tutors needed

The King County Library System (KCLS) offers group tutoring sessions in 26 of their 43 area libraries. Study Zone, the in-library service to students in grades K-12, is staffed by volunteer tutors.

Study Zone volunteers are especially need in South King County, including Auburn, Algona-Pacific and Federal Way.

KCLS is looking for community members who are interested in sharing their skills with kids who want to learn. Volunteers with skills—in math, science, English, social studies, study methods and more—can make a difference in a child’s life at one of their Study Zone sites.

Schedules vary at each library and new days/locations can be added.

Valley Kiwanians recently supported the high school international student exchange program by attending a special dinner-auction-dance event at the Kent Senior Center. The exchange program is between Kent and Auburn high school students and students in Tamba, Japan.
