Local players hit the mark at $210,000 Medalist World Championship Dart Tournament

Auburn's John Husman of Auburn, Renton’s Steve Roth and Tacoma’s Pat Farrell were among the local winners to pack home trophies as a tournament field of more than 1,240 daily entries, including a strong international presence, converged on Las Vegas to compete for $210,000 in prize money over three days (Aug. 27-29) at the Texas Station Gambling Hall & Hotel.

Husman, who plays out of Cloud 9 in Kent, won the ’01 Medley “Super” Singles Championship by defeating Spain’s Raul Gutierrez Valdi Vieso in the best-of-5 format. For his efforts, Husman collected $1,250 in prize money, a championship trophy and a post-match champagne toast.

Representing the Pickled Onion Pub in Renton, Roth captured the ’01 Medley “A” Singles flight by defeating Spain’s Benito Cruz Moreno in their title showdown. Roth walked away with $900 for his victory.

Farrell, who plays out of Dawson’s in Tacoma, earned $800 for winning his championship by defeating Georgia’s Jimmy Flurry in the ’01 Medley “B” Singles finale.

This was the first year that the three-day event was held at Texas Station after a successful run at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The field of players was comprised of Medalist League players from across the United States. The event also had an international flavor with players from Spain, France, England, Thailand, and Japan.
