Despite losses, Friday Harbor soccer team stays positive | Soccer

The Friday Harbor Wolverines soccer team is off to a tough season start. With only 12 players and two seniors, that was to be expected.
But despite the losses, the young team is showing a positive attitude in the face of defeat — a sign of discipline and maturity, Coach Andy Duke said.
And the two seniors, forward Cameron Byington and midfielder Pablo Lopez, are showing grace and leadership in helping to teach their young successors, several of whom are new to the sport.
“It’s hard for them but they are keeping positive and helping the young guys in trying to work through this,” Duke said. “It takes a lot of discipline, but they are keeping their chins up.”
Sophomore forward Conor Lanphere scored the Wolverines’ sole goal in their 13-1 season-opener loss to Coupeville, March 17 at Coupeville.
The Wolverines lost to Meridian 8-0 at home Thursday, and to Coupeville 19-0 on Saturday.
Next: The Wolverines (0-3) host Lynden JV Friday, then travel to South Whidbey on Saturday.
