A funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, 11 a.m., at Valley Church for Jermaine De Shion Reaves, 22, who died after being shot in the chest in his Friday Harbor apartment Sept. 28.

Circumstances related to the shooting have not been released by authorities, but Reaves' brother, Jawaad, 21, has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held on $100,000 bail in Island County Jail. His arraignment is Oct. 10.

"They were loved on this island," their mother, Sandra Marshall, said of her sons.

Viewing begins at 11 a.m. in Valley Church. There will be no formal service, just a time of gathering.

Meanwhile, Reaves' friends have organized a series of fund-raisers to help pay for his funeral expenses.

The Jermaine Reaves Memorial Fund has been established at Islanders Bank.

A potluck barbecue was held Thursday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Harbor Ridge neighborhood on Roche Harbor Road. Shannon Smith said all donations would be contributed to the Jermaine Reaves Memorial Fund.

A fund-raiser was held Friday, 6 p.m., at Bella Luna Restaurant.

On Sunday, American Legion Post 163 will host a spaghetti feed and silent auction, 3-6 p.m., downstairs.

Jermaine Reaves was born in Seattle on Feb. 28, 1986. He attended Friday Harbor schools and worked for Bella Luna and the China Pearl.

His survivors include his mother, Sandra Marshall; brothers, Jawaad, Joseph and DaOmunique; sister, Jemiesha; half-brother, Antonio; uncle and aunt, Rick Morris and Christi Napier; cousins, Marquis Napier and Jerray Napier; and uncle and aunt, Jason and Danielle Napier.

The family thanks Charles Thomas, Stacey Smith and Allegra Norwood for their help with the arrangements; Elements Hotel and Spa for providing rooms for visiting family members; and the Friday Harbor Tiger moms for donating providing meals to the family this week.

"Everybody has just helped so tremendously, we don't want to leave anybody out," Christi Napier said.
