Lopez girls lose to powerhouses

Jan 16 2002

The Lopez girls backtracked a bit last week with three losses, according to coach Fred Farris, but they still are coming to play hard every night.

“They didn’t play way, (but) the fight was still there. The effort was still there,” said Farris.

The girls lost to two exceptionally powerful B-caliber schools – Shoreline Christian and Mount Vernon Christian – by 59-13 and 78-20 respectively. There’s no shame in losing to these two teams, which regularly knock off A League schools in girls’ basketball.

However, Farris was hoping the girls could beat Grace Academy Jan. 11. The girls bowed 42-24.

Farris said, “We’re as good as they are,” but that the girls didn’t play their best in this game. He said Zoey Jones played well against Grace.

Jones came back against Mount Vernon Christian and hit two three-pointers.
