Lopez
Puppets on the Rock
Carter Family Marionettes will perform “Cinderella” on Saturday, Nov. 29, the first in a series of puppet shows on the island. All shows are at Lopez Center and start at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 for kids and $10 for adults. Tickets are available at Blossom Organic Grocery, Islehaven Books, Paper Scissors on the Rock, and at the door.
LCLT Board Meeting
The Lopez Community Land Trust Board of Directors will meet at LCLT’s office at 758 Lopez Road on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 9 a.m. to noon. All are welcome!
Thrift Shop Christmas sale
A Day to Remember! On Saturday, Dec. 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Lopez Thrift Shop will have its annual Christmas Sale in the multipurpose room at Lopez School. There will be many new items, antiques and collectables, blue hat specials every half hour, and a silent auction (ends at 1:30 p.m. All proceeds stay on the island.
Evening meals at the school
The Evening Meals at School “Holiday Evening Meal” will be on Thursday, December 11, 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Lopez School Multipurpose Room.
New KLOI show
The Grand Southern Vocal and Plectraphonic Review with Lance Brittain on Wednesdays from 7-10 p.m. A show covering early to contemporary folk, country, and bluegrass, plus some discussion of historical context, including news of current events in the bluegrass and folk community. From an acoustic perspective, Lance will explore other early influences, including classic early jazz, blues, and ragtime, border music, etc
Orcas
Santa ship
Santa will arrive at the Bellport Deer Harbor Marina at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13 aboard Tom Averna’s Deer Harbor Charters boat. After greeting the children at the dock, Santa will be driven to the Deer Harbor Community Club’s historic Deer Harbor Schoolhouse where he will distribute gifts to children 12 and under until noon. The Women’s auxiliary will be serving cookies and hot chocolate. Call 376-5172 for information
San Juan
Island Museum of Art photography exhibit
The next show at the Island Museum of Art is “Etherea, Lyrical Black and White Photography from the Islands.” Featuring photographers Joan Benney, Danielle Dean-Palmer, and Grace Seltser-Kelley, the exhibit showcases interpretations of island people and scenes, from the abstract to the realist, all with a poetical sense. The show runs from Nov. 19 through Dec. 20. Island Museum of Art is located at 314 Spring Street, Friday Harbor. 360-370-5050, www.westcottbay.org.
CAO meeting
The Critical Areas Ordinance Review Committee Meeting will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 2 at Islanders Bank Annex, 225 Blair Ave, Friday Harbor.
