Community tank should not be used for politics

We support the school bond and levy measures, as we wrote last week.
But we don’t support use of the old tank at the intersection of Olga Road and Crescent Beach Drive as a advertisement for politics.
The “Vote Yes for Our Schools” that is plastered all over the tank opens the door for more political statements. It has long been used by non-profits for community events, and even for personal messages, like birthday and anniversary wishes. It should stay that way.
So many are worried about off-site signage cluttering our landscape, but how attractive will “Vote for John Doe for Congress” be painted all over the tank come next November?
We hope the bond and levy measures pass. And we hope we won’t see this campaign slogan the next time we drive by.
