Mar 25 2009

San Juan County Council meetings are now available for viewing online. Councilmembers have wanted to make the meetings available but have repeatedly been told it would be cost prohibitive or technologically impossible. Chad Swanson, from Shaw Island trained Lisa Brown yesterday and the March 23 council meeting was posted Monday evening. Last week's Board of Health meeting is also available for viewing.

Swanson's company, AV Capture All, is headquartered out of Olympia. After entering the market at the end of 2008, they have 11 reference clients including the Washington State Senate, the City of Spokane and Tenino.

For $375 a month, the county is able to have the meetings posted and available for viewing. Training and onsite support is also included. If the county provided a server, live streaming would also be available. and

The council has asked its advisory committees to meet in the legislative building. Many committees have still been meeting in meeting rooms in bank buildings or the fire station. With the new technology, the public meetings which are usually held during the day, can be recorded and made available to the public for viewing.

To see the videos log on to www.sanjuanco.com/council/video.aspx. The videos are set up by agenda item so viewers can go directly to the item they want to view.
