Orcas Family Health Center is honored
Oct 20 2005
The goal of the Orcas Family Health Center (formerly Orcas Family Physicians) is to see that no Orcas islander goes without health care because of inability to pay. The board of directors, doctors and staff at Orcas Family Health Center are committed to that goal.
This was demonstrated when the Orcas Family Health Center was judged "outstanding," according to Group Health, Regence BlueShield and Community Health Plan of Washington.
After a site visit this summer, Group Health honored Orcas Family Health Center lead physician David Shinstrom, MD, with the Group Health Award of Excellence. It included commendations for delivering excellent care and service to Group Health patients and promoting comprehensive and continuous care.
The medical practice and staff also received a perfect score from Group Health after being inspected for safety, equipment monitoring, infection control, pharmaceutical services and patient management.
The Group Health Award of Excellence marks the third time that the Orcas Family Health Center has been recognized for outstanding performance by doctors and staff. Regence BlueShield and Community Health Plan of Washington issued high scores and commendations of their own earlier this year for the quality and efficiency of services available at the local medical practice.
Shinstrom received a $5,000 award from Regence for "Outstanding care" as a primary care clinician in the Regence BlueShield network. The site reviewer for Community Health Plan of Washington commended the practice for an "outstanding" score of 97 percent in categories which included physical plant, patient flow, protocols, and all the components of the practice.
Orcas Family Health Center provides full family medical services, including urgent and emergency care, regardless of ability to pay (sliding scale). Doctors are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
