Soccer team posts shutout
Sep 14 2005
The score was 6-0, but what the crowd will long remember was the team's fifth goal, by little Hailey Thompson.
"The ball deflected into the net off her stomach," assistant coach Andrew Lancioni explained. And when it happened, "the whole crowd went crazy."
The most spectacular goal in Orcas' 6-0 victory over Grace Academy, however, was the first one. It was scored by Viking star Sidney Hayworth, who sprinted through the entire Grace Academy team, dribbling as he went, then fired a shot past the goal keeper. The goal was impressive, but it wasn't unexpected. The senior has been scoring goals that way the last few years.
It was one of two goals by Hayworth, while the others were delivered by Jacob Bossler, Troy Hinton and Josh Green.
While mentioning the goal scorers by name, Lancioni said the entire team deserved credit for a fine effort. "It was a very positive game," he said. "We spread the ball around really well. We played together really well."
