Charanga….! Cuban rhythms come to Lopez

You don’t have to know traditional salsa dance steps to be swept off your feet by the irresistible sounds and rhythms of Yerbabuena! In fact, there’s no need to go any further than Lopez Center Saturday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m., to hear this intoxicating music. If you enjoyed Children of the Revolution, you will also love this band, dubbed by the Seattle Times as “one of the most popular and entertaining bands currently jamming around Seattle.” African rhythms and Cuban rumba merge seamlessly with the sensuality, humor and joy of son, cha-cha-chá, salsa, guaguancó and danzón. Yerbabuena’s sound is matched by the skill and appeal of its singer-dancers, who know that the singular purpose of Cuban music is to inspire the audience to move! Along with their original and modern arrangements, their repertoire draws from the music of many great Cuban artists, including Cachao and the Buena Vista Social Club.  

Yerbabuena is the second concert in the Lopez World Music Series, and is made possible by Lopez Village Market and Lopez patrons. Advance tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for youth. They are available at Islehaven Boooks, Blossom Organic Grocery, Paper, Scissors on the Rock, the Farmer’s Market and Lopez Center. Tickets will be $15 and $7 at the door.
