ORCAS ISLAND

WEDNESDAY, Sept. 3

Wooden Boat Rendezvous, Captains’ meeting on the dock at the Deer Harbor Marina, followed by an open-class sailboat race. Awards ceremony and a potluck dinner on the Deer Harbor dock.

New Family Welcome Tea sponsored by the PTSA takes place from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. in the School Library. Families new to the Orcas Island School District, and families of new Kindergarteners, are invited to an informal gathering – including refreshments.

THURSDAY, Sept. 4

Preschool storytime at the Orcas Island Public Library, 10 to 10:30 a.m. Info: 376-4985

Open Mic Pizza Night at Doe Bay Resort. A weekly benefit for a different nonprofit organization each month. 6 to 10 p.m., with open mic starting between 7 to 8.

Salsa Dancing at Odds Hall - Intro Lesson 7 to 7:45 p.m. Salsa Dancing 7:45 to 10 p.m. By donations, hosted by Maria Bullock at 376-6601.

FRIDAY, Sept. 5

Judy Tepley exhibit at Islanders Bank. Visit with the artist from 2:30 p.m. until closing.

“ENIGMA et al,” abstract art exhibit Opening Reception, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Orcas Center.

“End of Summer” Dance with the Steve Alboucq Jazz Quartet. Sponsored by the Orcas Island Dance Club – open to everyone. 8:30 p.m. at Orcas Center, Madrona Room. SATURDAY, Sept. 6

Saturday Farmers’ Market in Eastsound Village Green, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning May 3.

Orcas Public Library’s Saturday storytimes will be held from 11:30 am to noon on the Village Green during the Farmers Market season.

Golf Classic - Orcas Center, Island Market and Red Rabbit Farm sponsors. Optional costumes to The Ceremony and reception catered by Red Rabbit Farm. Entry fee $125 and includes greens fee, goodie bag, continental breakfast, lunch, reception buffet, and hosted bar. 9:30 am registration/breakfast; 11 a.m.m Tee Time at Orcas Island Country Golf Club. Kaleidoscope’s fourth annual “Island Grown, Island Raised” Dinner, with Live Auction at 5:30 at the Orcas Senior Center. $50 for five-course meal and wine from Lopez Vineyards. SUNDAY, Sept. 7

Summit Bike Challenge at Moran State Park for family and community. 10 a.m. check-in at Cascade Lake Shelter in the Park. Cost $25 individual, kids, 12 and under $15. Save $5 on registration by signing up beforehand at Wildlife Cycles, Eatsound Sporting Goods, Orcas Rec, the Chamber of Commerce or online at www.friendsofmoran.com. All proceeds benefit Moran State Park projects.

PTSA meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the School Library.

Includes a presentation by School Superintendent and High School Principal Barbara Kline regarding changes in staffing and programs from last year to this, and an opportunity to discuss the administrative realignment with her and K-8 Principal, Tom Gobeske. Childcare is provided.
