Beach Haven sponsoring free classical piano concert
Nov 06 2009
In honor of its 70th anniversary, Beach Haven Resort is presenting a free concert by classical pianist Alex Tchobanov.
Tchobanov loves to perform Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin and Liszt. A native of Bulgaria, he currently lives in New York. Tchobanov has also played at Carnegie Hall, won various piano competitions, and performed live on radio stations, including NPR and WGBH. He is a personal friend of the owner of Beach Haven and organizers says he is thrilled to perform for the Orcas community on Sunday, Nov. 15 at Orcas Center from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Beach Haven resort opened its cabin doors to the public in 1939. The founding owner, Bill Kimple, built the original four cabins that shared one central refrigerator and were heated by oil stoves. The old growth forest was preserved and just enough cabins were built to provide a private escape for every guest. Through the years more cabins were added and the resort was sold and bought by a few owners. Not much has changed at Beach Haven since then.
