ORCAS ISLAND

MONDAY

Duplicate bridge Every Monday at 7 p.m. at the Longhouse in Eastsound. For details call 376-2797 or 376-8278.

Chess The Orcas Chess Club will meet at Eastsound Library at 3:30 p.m., every Monday. Members age 5 to 105 with exceptions at both ends are welcome. Contact Phil Heikkinen at the library for details.

THURSDAY

Open Mic Pizza Night A weekly benefit at Doe Bay Resort Cafe with a different nonprofit organization chosen to benefit each month. Dinner served from 6 to 10 p.m. and the Open Mic starting between 7 and 8 p.m.

SATURDAY, JAN. 17

West Sound Community Club Potluck In addition to the potluck, there will be a slide show presentation by Jeff Bossler on his trekking adventure in Annapurna and the Himalayas. Social time is at 6:00 p.m., Potluck at 6:30 p.m. For more information please call Patty or Jim at 376-5738.

TUESDAY, JAN. 20

Haircut Drive There will be a haircut drive to benefit the family of Jordan Griffin from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Country Corner Laundromat. For appointments, call 376-4740. Minimum $10 donation for “nothing fancy” haircut.

Obama party at Outlook Inn, Victorian Room, 5-8 p.m., $5.00 cover, BYO hors d’oeuvres, open bar.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 21

Orcas Garden Club The next meeting will be in the Madrona Room at the Orcas Center at 10 a.m. The speaker for the meeting is Carol Miles, who will talk about “Vegetable Gardening.”

FRIDAY, JAN. 23

Art demonstration Sculptor Justin W. Taylor will be exhibiting his art work at Key Bank during January. An artist reception will be held on Jan. 23 from noon to 5 p.m. with Taylor giving a torch demonstration of patina on bronze in front of the bank.

SATURDAY, JAN. 24

Spotlight in the OffCenter A new music series, Spotlight in the OffCenter, will feature visiting artists in Orcas Center’s intimate black box theatre. The series will open at 7:30 p.m., with sets by Eric Apoe and Baby Gramps. Tickets are $12. Visit www.orcascenter.org or call or 376-2281 ext 1.

SATURDAY, JAN. 25

Island Classics Series Throughout 2009, Orcas Center will present Island Classics, a series of three matinee chamber music performances featuring players from San Juan, Orcas and Lopez Islands. The first of these series will be held on Sunday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $16 for adults and $10 for students.
