Orcas's 'Olga Daze' looking for donations

Jun 18 2008

Summer should be in full swing on Saturday, July 19 in Olga – the day when smiles, good food and live music will welcome islanders and visitors alike to the traditional Olga Daze “Sell-a-bration.” As always, included in the festivities will be a fanciful parade (led by bagpipes) in which everyone is invited to participate, a fire truck for kids to explore, a giant Yard and Barn Sale, local historians on hand, an extensive Silent Auction, the much-anticipated quilt raffle drawing, games for young and old, food concessions to suit all tastes, a BBQ and a bake sale — including the now-famous Olga Daze maple bars.

This annual event is held to raise funds for the Olga Community Club, and this year the funds will go towards covering the costs of a much-needed renovation for the clubhouse kitchen. The building was built in the early 1900s and belonged to the historic Olga Energetic Club until it was deeded over to the Olga Community in 1997. Several years ago, Olga Daze funds helped purchase land next to the clubhouse, now known as Olga Park, which serves as the main location for the event.

Islanders are invited to donate valuable goods and services for the Silent Auction by calling 376-2872. Previously owned items intended for donation to the Barn Sale may be dropped off at Olga Park on July 10 and 11, 17 and 18 from 4 to 7 p.m., or by appointment.

Donors are asked to check items first with the attendant and to be sure all items are clean and in good working condition. For more information, visit www.olgadaze.com.
