Islanders to share treasures for exhibit
Nov 02 2009
Historical artifacts and items of both art and utility from yesteryear will mix with personal memorabilia from islanders’ lives in a wide-ranging holiday season exhibit entitled “Island Treasures.” The exhibit opens Friday, Dec. 4 at Orcas Center. The exhibit is sponsored by the center’s visual arts committee.
Committee member and show coordinator Joe Floren asks all islanders who would like to share some of their treasures with the community to contact him at 376-5253 or jfloren@rockisland.com.
“In each of our lives, for a variety of reasons, certain things over the years tend to take on special meaning or emotional significance. These are the treasures this exhibit seeks to honor, and to share,” Floren said. “A wide range of entries can be expected, from treasured art works to antique farm implements, from old photographs, newspapers and personal letters to childhood toys to handmade furniture, quilts and clothing. It’s always a surprise, and a delight, to see what people offer to share.”
