First graders relive olden days at Crow Valley school
Nov 12 2008
Mathew Chasanoff’s first grade class experienced what school was like 100 years ago in a field trip to the historic Crow Valley School on Oct. 27.
Irene O’Neill was the “School Marm,” as the class spent four hours as students of the past. Warmed by only the heat of the wood stove, students sat at desks used in bygone days, marked their answers to arithmetic problems on individual chalkboards and read old and new books.
Guests during the day included storyteller Antoinette Botsford, who shared a fun chicken story. At recess, Botsford led the group in the traditional Ring Around the Rosey circle game.
O’Neill, a historic museum member, told about the one-room schoolhouse’s history.
