Local group offers to assist buyer of Rosario Resort

Sep 03 2008

Members of the Economic Development Council (EDC) of San Juan County met with public and private leaders on Thursday, Aug. 28 and committed to providing assistance to prospective purchasers of Rosario Resort.

The EDC will recruit volunteer community leadership with the appropriate skills and background to assist the buyer in the completion of development plans within the confines of the Rosario Master Plan.

This group will provide the buyer with historic information regarding the relationship between the resort and the community, guidance in dealing with the community as development plans move forward, and communication and coordination with those groups which have a direct or vested interest in the structure, rollout and employment associated with the resort properties.

If the buyer is not interested in retaining all the assets associated with the resort, this “assistance” group has already had discussions regarding individual assets from both public and private resources, such as the Trust for Public Lands and the Port of Orcas, both of whom have expressed an interest in working with a buyer.

If any potential buyers are seeking such information, or community groups are willing to sign up to provide relevant assistance, Steve Garrison has volunteered to act as a clearinghouse. Please contact him at 376-2883 or garrison@rockisland.
