The following is partial list of Sumner Police Department Activity from July 4 to July 6:
July 6
Explosion
Police responded to the 5900 block of 164th Avenue for a report of smoke coming from a portable toilet. Police did not discover a fire, but found remnants of a homemade explosive device detonated in the urinal fo the toilet.
Theft
Police were called to the 800 block of Cherry Street after an individual reported a backpack missing, but did not know where or when it was taken.
Theft
Officers were dispatched to the 15400 block of Washington Street for a report of a cell phone stolen from a building.
Suspicious situation
Police were called to the corner of Pease and Zehnder Streets for a report of individuals seeing a man covered in blood sitting in a vehicle.The individual gave various answers for what had happened. Medics determined the blood was from a cut and transported the man to a hospital. Police found brass knuckles inside the vehicle and took them to be destroyed.
July 5
Reckless driving
Police were dispatched to the 400 block of Valley Avenue for a report of reckless driving. The individual was arrested for reckless driving, fireworks and liquor violations.
July 4
Vehicular assault
Officers were called to the 14000 block of Stewart where a pickup truck came into oncoming traffic and struck a motorcycle. The motorcyclist maintained control and followed the pickup, which proceeded without stopping. When the pickup pulled off to turn around, the motorcyclist reached in and took the driver’s keys. The pickup driver appeared to be intoxicated and medics transported him to a hospital. His license was also expired. The truck was impounded.
Burglary
Police were dispatched to the 1300 block of Willow where a resident reported items taken from the garage. It may have happened while the door was open.
Found
Police located a bicycle in the 15300 block of Fryar and transported the bike to the station for storage.
Vandalism
A city employee reported graffiti in the 1100 block Fryar.
Destruction
Police responded to the 1700 block of Bonney Avenue where a resident reported and explosion and smoke coming from a portable toilet. East Pierce made sure the fire was out.
Weapons and drugs
Officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of Main Street where an individual alerted police to a vehicle whose occupants he said had stolen items from his yard. The officer located and pulled over the vehicle. Both the driver and passenger had outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions. The officer also found brass knuckles and a glass pipe in the vehicle. the vehicle was impounded and the individuals were cited and turned over to the jurisdictions which their warrants originated.
